Game 9: Indians 4 - Tigers 1

Last night we visited Comerica Park in Detroit and watched another good game between the Tigers and their division rival the Cleveland Indians.

We began our day in Toronto and spent most of the afternoon making our way back to the US. We arrived at our hotel in downtown Detroit and snapped a photo of the ballpark from our window.

After freshening a bit, we walked toward the ballpark looking for a spot for dinner. We found a great local tavern for a quick bite and pressed on to explore the stadium.

Comerica is a beautiful park. Beth and I were both surprised at how much we liked the park. The weather for the game was perfect (78 deg. w/ a light breeze) and we had nice seats.

You may notice that I wore my Arizona hat. The Indians are managed by Terry Francona (fellow UofA Alumus). Just before the game, I went down to the side of the Indians dugout and caught Terry's attention. Pointing to my hat, I give him the sign and garnered a big smile and a fist pump from him.

Honestly, I think that is why the Indians topped the Tigers (it just couldn't have been that horrible reliever that the Tigers threw way too long). Totally worth the hat selection for the day.

While the Tigers were attempting a rally effort, we learned that Detroit has a rally "goose". This goes back a few weeks to the "goose incident" (if you don't know what I am talking about, check it out on youtube ... try "goose Detroit Tigers game"). They already have shirts, rally cloths and see if you can spot a goose in the Tigers logo.

Beth also ran into her friend again (sporting different colors than in Houston ... go figure).

Turned out that after the game was fireworks night. As a result, we also enjoyed a fireworks show.

This morning we visited Grand Rapids (Beth's birthplace). My first visit and her first in 50 years. Nice city.

Finally, we moved on to the west coast of Michigan and began our wandering to the Upper Peninsula (UP) as we trek toward Milwaukee. More on that in the next day or two.
